Sur-Ron and Talaria service schedule

Electric dirt bikes lose the engine service and keep everything else. No oil changes, no valves, no top end, no air filter. What is left is a chassis that gets ridden harder than most petrol bikes, a set of fluids with two genuine safety traps, and manuals that disagree with each other and with reality about how long anything lasts.

Read this before you top up a brake. Talaria fits a mineral system, type HF10-2, and DOT fluid will destroy its seals. The Sur-Ron Light Bee manual contradicts itself: the parts table says DOT4 while the brake text says mineral, so identify your actual caliper before adding anything. Mixing the two is not a performance question, it is a brake failure.

Sur-Ron Light Bee

Sur-Ron does not stamp model years, so the useful split is pre-2024 against 2024 and later. Earlier manuals are condition-based: inspect, clean, lube, replace when worn, with no periodic table to schedule from. The 2024 manual added a full whichever-comes-first table, and that is where these numbers come from.

Two figures in that manual should not be treated as targets. The 15 to 30 mm chain slack has a verification problem, covered in the chain guide. And the 225 kPa tyre pressure on the spec plate is a maximum, not a riding pressure. Real off-road use sits far lower, roughly 83 to 124 kPa, and running the plate figure off-road gives you no grip and a hard ride.

Sur-Ron Ultra Bee

One generation, 2023 onward, no model-year split. The schedule is the most detailed of any e-moto here, and also the most single-sourced: almost every figure traces to the one owner's manual, with second sources disagreeing on several. Both the chain and the sprockets carry the same staged checks, and tyres and pads are wear items despite having a table maximum.

Talaria Sting, Sting R and MX4

The Talaria split is a real generation change, not a rebrand: Sting up to 2022 against Sting R and MX4 from 2023. The reduction gearbox interval, the oil volume and even the printed grade all changed, so applying one generation's number to the other is a genuine mistake rather than a rounding difference.

Three honest caveats on that table. The 2022 Sting manual prints the gearbox grade as CL-5, which the later MX4 manual corrects to GL-5, and the app carries the correction. Neither Talaria manual publishes a numeric brake-fluid replacement interval, so the app's 12 month figure is a conservative dealer cadence and is flagged as an assumption in its own interval sign-off record rather than presented as a manufacturer figure. And the chain has no replacement distance anywhere: it is inspected before every ride, adjusted to 15 to 25 mm free play on the MX4 manual's single-sourced figure, and replaced by measurement.

Talaria also does not publish a suspension service interval, because it does not build the suspension. Sting and MX4 bikes ship with Talaria, FastAce or DNM units depending on the batch, and the manual defers to the component maker. Identify what is actually on your bike: the suspension guide has the real schedules, and the FastAce fork figure in particular is far shorter than any e-moto default.

Stark Varg and Segway

Both are thinner on published data. The Stark Varg runs a primary belt and a 520 final chain, and Stark publishes no belt replacement figure, so the app carries a conservative 6 month inspection nudge for tension, fraying, cracking and tooth wear rather than a replacement schedule. Segway specifies front and rear shock maintenance every 6 months on the X160 and X260, which works out around 50 ride hours at roughly 2 hours a week, but does not define what the overhaul contains.

What the app estimates, and says it estimates

Some e-moto parts have no manufacturer figure worth shipping. Rather than invent one or leave the part blank, Loam Moto carries a conservative estimate that can only raise an amber prompt to look at something, never a red replace-now:

Almost every e-moto table maximum is optimistic off-road. A 20,000 km chain, tyre or pad figure describes a scheduled service ceiling, not observed life on trails. Independent sources put real chain life between 1,000 and 5,000 km, and pads and tyres are wear items measured in millimetres, not kilometres. Use the distance figures to trigger an inspection, then let what you see decide. Your own manual is the authority for your model and your generation.

Why an e-moto needs tracking more than a petrol bike, not less

There is no oil change to force you into the garage every few rides, no engine noise that changes as something wears, and no hour meter, because most of these bikes do not have one. The maintenance is real but it is all quiet: a belt going hard, a chain stretching, bearings loading up with water, spokes settling, fluid ageing in a sealed line. It is very easy to ride an electric dirt bike hard for a season and touch none of it.

What maintenance does a Sur-Ron need?

Everything except engine service. Brake fluid every 10,000 km or 12 months on the 2024 and later Light Bee and on the Ultra Bee, staged chain and sprocket checks from 5,000 km, pads and discs by measured thickness, spoke re-tensioning from 100 km, bearing inspections from 2,000 km, and belt inspection. Sur-Ron reduction drives are sealed, so there is no gearbox oil on any model year.

How often does a Talaria need gearbox oil?

Every 1,000 km on the 2021 to 2022 Sting with 120 to 150 ml, and every 5,000 km on the 2023 onward Sting R and MX4 with 70 to 90 ml. Both take a first change after the 300 km run-in, and the grade is GL-5 85W-90.

What brake fluid does a Talaria use?

Mineral, type HF10-2, never DOT. The Sur-Ron Light Bee manual is the one to be careful with instead: its parts table and its brake text disagree, so confirm your caliper type before topping up.
